Introduction

Although the primary focus is related to agriculture, the centre has interest in investigating and resolving issues related to entomology in other vital sectors such as taxonomy, environment and medicine. Present members comprised of research scientists, extension specialists and support personnel.

The Centre affiliates with the Gombak Field Station and therefore extends services in educational programs. This provide learning experiences in entomology and biodiversity for secondary and tertiary students emphasizing on developing skills for the real world environment that include active learning, critical thinking, problem solving and group learning. For the mature audience, presentations at scientific meetings, public and private organizations were conducted.

The researches in the Centre are sometimes requested to perform a time consuming but much needed public service in the identification of insects and other arthropods for individuals or organizations. We actively participate in field surveys in collaboration with other organizations e.g. Forest Research Institute, Malaysian Nature Society, Golden Hope, Perbadanan Negeri Johor. Such activities added to the wealth of collections deposited in the Institute of Biological Sciences, Zoological Museum.

Our scientists closely collaborate with extension scientists of world repute:
